And then there’s Brad Pitt.
“Let us be honest, it was a difficult part,” he continued, dividing the audience. “A guy who gets large, takes off his shirt and does not get on with his wife. It is a big stretch.”
Over the previous month, Pitt, 56, has delivered a series of hilariously self-deprecating approval speeches — which, insiders told The Post, he pens himself — as he has won a Golden Globe, SAG and several Critics Circle awards for his role as stuntman Cliff Booth at Quentin Tarantino’s movie. He also charmed the Internet with photos of his affectionate SAG Awards reunion with initial ex-wife Jennifer Aniston.
“Let’s be honest, it was a difficult part. A guy who gets high, doesn’t get on with his wife and takes his shirt off. It’s a major stretch.”
Today Pitt — up for Best Supporting Actor — is apparently a sure bet to win his first Oscar on Sunday.
And he has finally won the war waged by his second ex-wife, Angelina Jolie. Back in August 2018, sources told Page Six that the actress had begun a whisper campaign to paint Pitt as a deadbeat dad amid a custody struggle for the couple’s six children.
“I would not say muted, because they did lots of really excellent work together internationally,” said a near Pitt colleague. “But Angelina did a lot of their talking and was aggressive in setting agendas and priorities.”
“It was a tough shoot. Brad was in the middle of his divorce from Angelina and that he was not getting to watch his children as much as he wanted to,” the insider said. “Part of the reason Brad took the role was so he would stay in LA and watch the children.”
Jolie shocked the world when she filed for divorce in September 2016. It reportedly came after an alleged private-jet altercation between Pitt and oldest son Maddox, today 18, where the teen is said to have stepped in to defend his mother. In a video of this episode, Pitt seemed and allegedly yelled.
From the time Tarantino started filming 2018, Jolie was allegedly on a mission to shame Pitt, filing a court assert that the celebrity had failed to pay some”significant” child support even as his camp disclosed that he had paid more than $9 million since the 2016 split.
“He was filming with all the legal stuff going on in the background,” said the colleague. “This was a really tough time in his life and he had great support from everyone on set.”
He formed a powerful bond with co-star Leonardo DiCaprio. In the movie, their personalities spend every day hanging out on sets, watching TV, sharing meals. In real life, a Pitt pal stated, DiCaprio — whom Pitt calls”LDC” and”Lover” — was a fantastic source of moral support and friendship.
“They have a fantastic bond,” that a Pitt pal said. “The shoot, although hard, was something Brad needed.”
During this time, the divorce judge scolded Jolie for trying to drive a wedge between Pitt and the children. Today Pitt gets to see his children for four hours every second day and 12 hours on weekends.
“I want to thank my co-stars: Leo, Margot Robbie, Margot Robbie’s feet, Margaret Qualley’s feet, Dakota Fanning’s feet. Seriously, Quentin has split more women from their shoes than the TSA.”
Despite reports that he jumped the BAFTAs to work on his relationship with Maddox, insiders told The Post that it wasn’t the case — but said Pitt does not have much of a relationship with the teen, a pupil at Yonsei University in Seoul, South Korea.
Jolie and Pitt aren’t officially divorced as they are still iron out custody and financing, but they’re legally only after a”status-only” dissolution of marriage. The two seldom talk, revealed Pitt’s pal, adding:”It is not easy.”
Pitt’s friends confirmed to The Post which the celebrity is sober, and he’s publicly spoken about his drinking and the way AA aided him.
When Bradley Cooper introduced him with a Best Supporting Actor honor in the National Board of Review Awards in January, Pitt revealed:”I got sober due to this man. And every day’s been happier ever since.”
But that joy does not consist of considerable love.
“He is not a monk, but he’s not leaping into another serious relationship,” said the colleague.
The planet went crazy at the sight of Pitt and ex-wife Aniston warmly greeting each other backstage in the SAGs at January — 15 years after their split. Although Pitt reportedly attended Aniston’s holiday celebration and 50th-birthday bash last year, that’s as far as their connection goes.
“I have to remind my brother in crime, LDC… but still, I would have shared with the raft.”
– Pitt creating a”Titanic” joke regarding Leonardo DiCaprio at the Golden Globes
When Pitt hits the red carpet Sunday, he will probably be joined by parents Jane and Bill. It is a far cry from the 2017 Oscars, which he spent at enjoying a spaghetti dinner with friends while the awards played on TV in another room.
Up next, Pitt is producing a documentary about the late singer Chris Cornell, as well as a movie adaptation of the play”The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time” and also an HBO adaptation of the novel”Americanah.”
And sources say he has savoring his peers’ enjoy from his peers at this time.
“He has really enjoyed the attention on his acting,” stated the Pitt pal.
“There is a lot of respect and love from Hollywood due to his ability and how supportive he has been of others and just how easy he is to use.
“He’s a good guy — that will be his heritage.”
